The project promoted by the association “House of Tenderness” in collaboration with the Community Foundation of Agrigento and Trapani aims to improve the quality of life of people with autism spectrum disorder and their families in the province of Trapani. For this reason, a fundraising has been launched to build an innovative residential center: House of tenderness.
Where did the project come from?
House of tenderness was born from the desire of the family and friends of Guglielmo De Filippi, a priest of the Diocese of Trapani, to carry out social solidarity projects in his name to support people in situations of fragility. Thus, they set up a solidarity fund at the Community Foundation with the aim of collecting resources to make a dream come true. This dream begins with a building, near Trapani, surrounded by 1 hectare of land planted with olive trees. It will be donated by the family of Guglielmo De Filippi with the desire that in this place will be carried out a work to support the most fragile.
What is the mission?
House of tenderness wants to develop services not available in the area and highly valuable for the local community with the aim of improving the accessibility of adults with autism spectrum disorder living in the province of Trapani to health care and inclusive education.
In the building of Guglielmo De Filippi a center will be built that caters to autistics and their families by offering them high-level integrated health-socio-educational services – lacking in the area. But above House of tenderness wants to offer all opportunities to develop an inclusive, self-sufficient and wealthy community, opportunities for interaction, personal growth and autonomy.
More than services, it offers possibilities
House of tenderness will be:
Residential center that provides permanent hospitality to adults with autism spectrum disorder, integrated health-socio-educational services and involvement in community life. Through a family environment, constant support provided by professionals and specialized equipment, guests will be part of educational and recreational activities, such as social farming and craft workshops. In social spaces, such as the multipurpose sports hall and the swimming pool, guests can interact with each other and develop their passions.
Daily reception center that provides health-socio-educational services to additional non-permanent guests. Adults with autism spectrum disorder who are not resident in the area of the province of Trapani and resident children will have access to various types of therapeutic courses, activities in nature, workshops and sports activities.
Why are the interventions of House of Tenderness so urgent?
– Because in the area of the province of Trapani there are no daily and residential centers for autism and the services dedicated to them are currently lacking.
– Because the Covid-19 emergency has caused a further deterioration of services, greater vulnerability and isolation.
