Inclusive Restart Call: Educational Workshops Dedicated to Every Growing Life

It’s time to tell you about the Educational Workshops project carried out by the Casa della Comunità Speranza Association in Mazara del Vallo. The Educational Workshops were a project supported by the Foundation and community crowdfunding as part of the Inclusive Restart call.

The Workshops were held between April and May, involving approximately 120 children and adolescents. They were significant places for relationships, activities that transversally developed active processes of socialization and citizenship, as well as specific skills and competencies.

The Workshops included:

– Creativi.lab, tailoring and creative recycling. In this workshop, the youngsters created original and creative artifacts using recycled materials such as stones, fabrics, wood, glass, cardboard, and cardstock. A workshop where they not only learned to discover and value their talents and creativity but also built and strengthened healthy bonds of friendship, collaboration, and trust. An exhibition space will also be created from this workshop in a small store in the heart of the Casbah, a neighborhood in the historic center of Mazara.

– Profession Reporter. Coordinated by an operator, the youngsters participated in and contributed to the preparation and processing stages of the Casa della Comunità Speranza newsletter. This helped develop the ability to work in groups, listen, and express their own points of view.

– Ad una Sola Voce (With One Voice). Elementary school children participated in the singing workshop. The activities were carried out creatively and enjoyably, allowing the children to experiment and express themselves.

– Street Dance. The participation was so extensive that the activities were conducted in three different shifts. This was all realized in the small squares of the Casbah, which came to life with music and street dance moves.

– Mazara Casbah. Every day, from Monday to Friday, groups of children enjoyed football training through various types of games.

But the Workshops are not over because Casa della Comunità Speranza is also active in the summer. In fact, the E-State a cielo aperto (Summer Under the Open Sky) has been planned, an evolution of the Educational Workshops proposed for the summer period: playful and educational activities aimed at children and adolescents. The activities involve 81 children and adolescents, engaged in sports, creative, and manual workshops. In the E-State a cielo aperto, each group of children and adolescents is named after the foreign peoples who have dominated Sicily: Phoenicians, Normans, Byzantines, Aragonese, Angevins, Saracens. Each group is led by an operator, assisted by volunteers; meanwhile, the workshops are managed by experts, also supported by volunteers.

Best wishes for continued success to the Casa della Comunità Speranza Association and all their operators!
