Drop-in: Developing the Network with Educational Communities in Agrigento and Trapani

The Drop-in project generally targets adolescents aged 14 to 17 residing in the territories of the provinces of Lecco, Trapani, and Agrigento, with the aim of supporting their transition to adult life, helping and encouraging them to build their own life projects. This is a long-term process that involves a multitude of actors, primarily the family and school, and requires the commitment of the entire community.

Promoting the integral development of minors cannot be separated from the construction of a network that permanently connects all local actors, synergistically integrating skills and resources, especially in a region that ranks among the highest in Italy for rates of educational poverty and school dropout. For this reason, the Foundation, particularly committed to developing new models of inter-institutional cooperation and shared governance for local development planning, is carrying out a broad local animation action aimed at educational communities, in order to actively involve them in the Drop-in project and develop together innovative models to combat educational poverty and school dropout.

Among the first to join the network are the Observatory for School Dropout in the Marsala-Petrosino area of the Mazzini Institute in Marsala, the Observatory for School Dropout of the Verga Institute in Canicattì, and the Regional School Office – Office XI Territorial Area of Trapani, which enthusiastically joined the project and signed memoranda of understanding with the Community Foundation of Agrigento and Trapani.

The memoranda were signed by Prof. Anna Maria Angileri (School Dropout Observatory, Marsala-Petrosino area), Prof. Maria Ausilia Corsello (local Observatory of Canicattì), Dr. Tiziana Catenazzo (Manager USR Territorial Area of Trapani), and Giuseppe La Rocca, Director of the Community Foundation. Also present were Prof. Vita Pulizzi (School Dropout Observatory, Marsala-Petrosino area), Dr. Carmela Matteliano (local Observatory of Canicattì), and Dr. Maria Lisa Figuccia (USR Territorial Area of Trapani), who actively supported the accession process of the reference entities.

Thanks to the initiation of such collaborations, the Community Foundation was invited to the first annual meeting organized by the Area Observatories of Marsala and Canicattì for the planning of monitoring, prevention, and combating school dropout activities in the two territorial areas, and joined the inter-institutional table “La Scuola Promessa”, whose establishment was promoted by Dr. Tiziana Catenazzo and Prof. Annamaria Ilardi (USR Territorial Area of Trapani).

The Foundation enthusiastically responded to these invitations, which represent a first step towards the realization of joint initiatives that can bring value to young people and the entire local community, and extends heartfelt thanks to the participating entities for their collaboration.

The Drop-in project was selected by Con i Bambini within the framework of the Fund for the fight against educational poverty in minors and is co-financed by the Peppino Vismara Foundation.

The lead partner of the Drop-in project is La Grande Casa Società Cooperativa Sociale di Sesto San Giovanni (MI), while the partners of the Sicilian network are, in addition to the Community Foundation, the Solidalia Consortium, and the Euroform Association.
