“Lands of Skies, Water and Stones”is the title of a cultural and social regeneration project that starts in Santo Stefano Quisquina, funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU through the “Attrattività dei Borghi” call, one of the investments provided by the PNRR in support of small historic Italian villages and a new model of sustainable tourism.
The project aims to enhance the tourist potential of Santo Stefano Quisquina, an enhancement that involves the community as an active protagonist in cultural regeneration and redevelopment processes. This will be done by first making the community aware of its tangible and intangible heritage and linking people to the territory. Then, by accompanying them in the creation of cultural and community assets. This support is comprehensive, including training on relevant topics, co-design, and networking of stakeholders.
All of these elements are essential to ensure that social and cultural regeneration continues even after 2026, that is, even after the end of the project. In fact, the goal of “Lands of Skies, Water and Stones” is to establish a Community Cooperative that ensures long-term sustainability.
As the first step in this community activation process, on January 27th, the council chamber of Santo Stefano Quisquina was filled with citizens eager to participate in the preliminary phases of the project: an event held by Impacta Impresa Sociale, a partner that will utilize the model of the Museo Diffuso dei 5 Sensi of Sciacca in Santo Stefano.
The Community Foundation of Agrigento and Trapani , also a partner of “Lands of Skies, Water and Stones“, will be responsible for planning change objectives through the use of the Theory of Change (ToC). The ToC is a participatory methodology for planning change and evaluating social impact, with the particularity of proceeding in reverse: we will focus on the general social change we want to generate and map back the preconditions necessary to achieve the change. All of this together with the citizens of Santo Stefano.
