Since 2021, Fondazione Comunitaria di Agrigento e Trapani has been among the signatory partners of the declaration of commitment for the climate which was launched by Assifero in 2021, thus welcoming the international call promoted by Dafne – Donors and Foundations Networks in Europe (already Philea) e Wings.
Climate change, far from being exclusively an environmental issue, also represents a challenge in terms for the education field, public health, social, economic, scientific and cultural justice, security and a threat to local communities.
The Declaration of Commitment of foundations and philanthropic entities for climate change signed by Fondazione Comunitaria represents a clear and firm step to act and face the current and future climate emergency, inspiring a path for integrating the climate lens within our mission and through our pact with the territory in the two provinces of Agrigento and Trapani.
Following the same trend and through a wider international movement, Fondazione Comunitaria was one of the finally selected European philanthropic organizations winning the scholarship for the Learning Journey “Climate+Philanthropy” organized by Active Philanthropy and European Community Foundation Initiatives (ECFI).
The course, addressed at professionals working in community foundations across Europe, provided useful tools and skills to integrate climate protection into the action strategy of the participating foundations, regardless of their mission, scope, or geographical location.
Led by over 20 professional experts, the course consisted of online thematic modules and interactive sessions exploring the broad spectrum of the causes of climate change and how we can align foundation grants, operations and investments for climate action and becoming an engine for change towards a more generative and prosperous future.
To keep the commitment of Fondazione Comunitaria towards the climate alive and through the Assifero network cooperating at a national level, we participated together with Italian foundations and philanthropic bodies in the first cycle of webinars related to the six Pillars of the Declaration of Commitment for the climate following the indications of the “Practical guide for the implementation of the declaration of commitment of Italian philanthropic foundations and entities for the climate crisis“.
The first pillar “Educate and learn”, on which we discussed in an interactive and collaborative way, revealed how the road ahead even if challenging but “Learning during the process is crucial to sustain the impact of our commitment in the field over time (Practical guide for the implementation of the declaration, page n. 5).”
