ECO Educazione di Comunità: Towards the Creation of a Community Educational Pact in Favara

On June 28th, the follow-up event to the Theory of Change workshops concluded with great participation, marking a fundamental moment of dialogue and sharing for building an educational community in Favara (AG). The event was carried out as part of the ECO Educazione di Comunità project, selected by CON I BAMBINI within the framework of the Fund for combating child educational poverty.

What Happened?

During the meeting, the results of the Theory of Change workshops held in February were thoroughly examined. These workshops brought together various community members—from youths to teachers, from representatives of the municipal administration to members of the ecclesial community and local Third Sector entities—to discuss the challenges related to education and opportunities for the youth in Favara.

Starting from the analysis of the main challenges of the territory and the opportunities for regeneration, a concrete and sustainable change path was outlined in the last session. Central to this meeting were the various actors of the educational community of Favara, who together identified priorities and initiated a co-design process for actions aimed at combating educational poverty. During the meeting, a brief recap of the work done in previous months was presented, reminding participants of the collectively identified “macro changes”:


  1. Schools, universities, companies, and the territory offer quality educational and vocational guidance pathways.
  2. The territory offers opportunities for study and cultural, sports, and social growth for young people, with free or subsidized access.
  3.  Families invest quality time and resources in their children’s education.
  4. Citizens of all ages actively participate in initiatives that promote quality growth opportunities for young people, directly or through local associations.
  5. The territory takes care of, enhances, and redevelops public and common spaces, protecting them from environmental degradation and vandalism.

Enhancing Existing Educational Offerings

The participants worked together to enhance the existing activities in Favara, which can help realize the community’s dreams in the short term. This work revealed that many of the actions needed for change are already in place and can be strengthened and more widely promoted to foster broader community involvement and have a greater impact.

Synergy with CeSVoP

Paola Caracappa, Territorial Manager of CeSVoP for the province of Agrigento, was also present at the event. She will integrate the needs analysis of the Favara territory with the Local Operational Conference (COL), collaborating in the co-programming and co-designing of shared intervention strategies with territorial actors to promote participation and youth volunteering pathways.

Empowering Communities for Sustainable Impact

The event demonstrated how a participatory approach can make a difference in combating educational poverty and promoting positive change. The Agrigento and Trapani Community Foundation operates through the paradigm of social generativity, an approach aimed at enhancing the community’s capacities so that it can continue its growth and development autonomously even beyond the duration of the ECO project, ensuring a lasting and sustainable impact over time. The next step will be to collectively develop the Favara Community Educational Pact, a document that will formalize the vision and agreed-upon actions among all involved actors, serving as a guide to maintain focus on educational and social objectives.
