Project
BREED
Building community REsiliencE and sustainable Development through social economy

Goal of the project

The project involves several municipalities in the Mediterranean and Southern European area that are facing similar social and economic challenges and aims to promote the resilience of local economic systems by strengthening the competences of local public administrations, social organisations and civil society in the field of social economy.

Who is it for?

The project is addressed to:

  • Public bodies and staff from municipal and local governments;
  • Organisations and operators in the field of social economy (social enterprises, cooperatives, associations, foundations, other third sector)

Activities

The project is made of 3 macro actions:

Action 1

Exchange of best practices and peer learning: The first phase of the project envisages the organisation of 5 Transnational Social Missions where participants (from public and private organisations) will be able to get to know and discuss good practices at local level, analyse proposed case studies and learn from each other. For this reason, each participating municipality will publish a dedicated Call for Proposals for the selection of 20 operators from organisations active in the field of social economy.

Action 2

Development of local Action Plans: The second phase, based on the results of the first one, envisages the joint development of strategies and action plans (Social Economy Action Plans) focusing on the social economy as a tool to promote community welfare. Local public administration operators will be able to discuss with third sector organisations and to outline together the tools and processes to promote a more effective and efficient public-private cooperation in order to better meet the needs of the territory and to promote its sustainable and inclusive development.

Action 3

Drafting guidelines: The third and final phase, based on the results of the first two, involves the elaboration and dissemination of guidelines that can support the development of Social Economy Action Plans in other communities, local and European.

Impact

80 social economy practitioners directly involved in the exchange and capacity building activities
