About Us

A community that grows together, shaping the future

The Community Foundation of Agrigento and Trapani was born on January 22, 2019 from a participatory process promoted by young people from the territory, together with local dioceses, the Catholic University and the Peppino Vismara Foundation. Different visions that meet in a common choice: building a future here, together. Its vocation is to activate what already lives in the territories: people, talents, relationships, energies that are often invisible but decisive. The Foundation connects them, strengthens them and transforms them into concrete opportunities for Sicily. It is a community social infrastructure, created within the CON IL SUD Foundation programme and registered with RUNTS. It accompanies processes and supports initiatives capable of generating value over time, so that care for territories becomes real and shared growth.

Vision, Mission and Values

Vision

Facing challenges together to reduce inequalities. The Community Foundation aspires to a community without inequalities, capable of concretely realising the ideals of social cohesion and integral human development thanks to local cooperation.

Vision
Mission

Mission

To contribute to the supportive development of communities, offering growth opportunities to people and third-sector organisations. Through the promotion of a culture of giving, participation and shared responsibility, the Community Foundation generates social infrastructure programmes that can become strategically relevant for the territory.

Values

The Community Foundation of Agrigento and Trapani promotes the development of the territory through four key values that guide every one of our actions.

Innovation

Innovation is the driving force that leads us to find new and creative solutions, experimenting with unconventional approaches to respond to the needs of the territory.

Active citizenship

Active citizenship reflects the belief that every citizen should participate actively in the life of the community, nurturing a culture based on civic engagement and shared responsibility.

Social inclusion

Social inclusion is at the heart of our mission: we work to build a community that is open and accessible to everyone, removing every barrier to participation.

Cooperation

Cooperation is the key that enables us to face the complex challenges of Sicilian territories, through the sharing of skills and resources among people, organisations and institutions.

These four values are our daily compass, guiding us in strengthening the social fabric, reducing inequalities and promoting fair, inclusive and innovative development for the common good of Sicily.

Our Story

The Community Foundation of Agrigento and Trapani was born from the desire to build new possibilities for Sicily, starting from the strength of people and the value of local communities. Today FCAT is a recognised player in the Sicilian third sector, constantly growing together with those who choose to be part of this generative movement.

2015

  • operating model

Dialogue begins with future founders and supporters.

2019

The birth

22 January 2019: after a participatory process involving young people, dioceses, universities and national foundations, the Foundation takes shape.

The goal is clear: to activate energies, ideas and resources in the territories of Agrigento and Trapani.

2019–2020

First steps

Priorities and methods are defined: listening, territorial workshops, co-design and the first experiments against poverty and marginalisation.

2021–2024

Growth and projects

Strategic partnerships are established with schools, local authorities, third-sector entities and social enterprises.

Projects are born that weave together inclusion, culture, training and regeneration.

2025

The 2025–2028 Strategic Framework is launched

The Foundation introduces four generative missions and adopts a process- and systems-change-oriented approach.

From 2026

A generative model for the territory

The Foundation begins building a generative territorial infrastructure, providing resources, skills and tools so that the territory consolidates itself as a system capable of activating and sustaining long-lasting change processes.
