Futurama: Jobshadowing and new perspectives

The Futurama project, selected by Con i Bambini as part of the Fund for the Fight against Child Educational Poverty and co-funded by Fondazione Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, continues into its third year of activities, strengthening its work with schools in the areas of Erice and Palma di Montechiaro. This phase places at the center a crucial theme in students’ educational journey: orientation towards the world of work, with pathways carried out by the partner Cooperativa Sociale Beehive.
The objective is not only to provide information about professions, but to help young people understand how the skills developed at school can translate into concrete opportunities. For this reason, the STEAM orientation pathway includes direct meetings with young entrepreneurs and professionals from the local area—opportunities for dialogue that allow students to hear real experiences, explore different career paths, and observe more closely the link between education, innovation, and local development.
Alongside this dialogue with the productive sector, Futurama also introduces hands-on learning experiences. Job shadowing activities offer students the opportunity to enter workplaces and closely observe activities, processes, and professional roles. This is an important step, as it helps move beyond a often abstract view of professions, allowing students to engage with real contexts and reflect more consciously on their own inclinations.
The pathway is complemented by orientation workshops designed to provide practical tools for early work experiences. Among the proposed activities are the development of transversal skills—from teamwork to effective communication—workshops on building a CV, exercises using the Business Model Canvas, and mock job interviews.
The activities of the current school year thus confirm one of the main directions of the Futurama project: strengthening the link between schools, local communities, and the world of work, offering students opportunities to explore different career possibilities and build useful tools to navigate their future choices.
The Futurama project was selected by Con i Bambini as part of the Fund for the Fight against Child Educational Poverty and co-funded by Fondazione Cassa Depositi e Prestiti. The Fund was established through an agreement between banking foundations represented by Acri, the National Third Sector Forum, and the Government. It supports initiatives aimed at removing economic, social, and cultural barriers that prevent children from fully benefiting from educational processes. To implement the Fund’s programs, the social enterprise Con i Bambini was established in June 2016, a non-profit organization wholly owned by Fondazione CON IL SUD. www.conibambini.org
