STIV: A week of Innovation, Sustainability and Collaboration in Requena

From November 10 to 14, 2025, Requena became the meeting point for professionals and partners from France, Italy, Serbia and Spain, gathered for the STIV International Training Week—a fundamental stage of the Sustainable Transition in Viticulture (STIV) project. Hosted at the "Félix Jiménez" School of Viticulture and Oenology (EVER), the week combined academic sessions, technical demonstrations, winery visits and field experiences, offering a concrete overview of the evolution of European viticulture. Over the five days, 19 participants worked on the four pillars of the project—digital innovation, green transition, social transition and new business models—fostering international cooperation and practical learning.
A Rich Program of Training and Field Experiences
The week opened with a guided tour of the EVER campus—winery, oil mill, laboratories, workshops and nurseries—followed by a training session dedicated to digital transition in viticulture and a practical presentation of the STIV digital platform, by CROPT. The program then continued with green and energy transition, thanks to specialized presentations and a drone demonstration at the experimental estate Los Coloraos, where participants explored crop monitoring techniques via UAV, remote sensing and safe application of plant protection products. Mid-week, the focus shifted to new products and business models, through an immersive wine tourism experience at Bodega Calderón, where participants discovered the elements that define an authentic and engaging wine tourism offer within the Utiel-Requena Denomination of Origin. The fourth day was dedicated to the social transition of the wine sector, with visits to Chozas Carrascal—an example of biodiversity-oriented viticulture—and to Bodega Mustiguillo, a reference point for regenerative and biodynamic practices. The week concluded with a collective review of the STIV Handbook and a technical visit to Picassent–Monserrat, where participants explored the potential of agrivoltaics to integrate photovoltaic energy production with vine cultivation.
A Step Forward for European Viticulture
The STIV International Training Week in Requena created meaningful connections among experts, trainers and professionals committed to promoting a more sustainable, digital, resilient and socially responsible wine sector. Through practical demonstrations, collaborative discussions, cultural activities and concrete examples of innovative viticultural models, participants gained new skills, tools and perspectives.
A week where landscape, heritage and innovation intertwined—contributing to building the next chapter of sustainable viticulture in Europe.
