Implementation period
May 2023 – October 2025
Donor
Fund for combating child educational poverty
Project objective
Our goal is to promote the building and strengthening of effective and sustainable educating communities in the cities of Favara and Palma di Montechiaro, located in the province of Agrigento. This process will be based on empowerment and peer community learning.
Target audience
The project targets the entire educating community of Favara and Palma di Montechiaro: schools, teachers, parents, students, local authorities.
Activities
The project promotes 4 main actions to strengthen the educating community of the municipalities of Favara and Palma di Montechiaro:
Peer Community Learning NOI – storytelling and theatre to tell the community: through a digital storytelling (DST) workshop based on the methodology from the Storycenter of Berkeley (USA), various representatives of the educating community will be involved with the aim of developing both "soft" and "hard" skills, such as active listening and digital skills. The content emerging during the storytelling will be reworked in a dramaturgical key and will be the basis for the creation of narratives of the 3 communities. In addition, learning paths between "communities" are planned to enhance the experiences carried out in the territory of Sciacca.
Multi-sectoral and intergenerational co-design tables with communities: Through a series of participatory meetings, a participatory Theory of Change will be established. Meetings facilitated by facilitators will bring together participants, young people, teachers, organisation members and representatives of the educating community to define the impact to be generated and map the preconditions needed to achieve it.
Space refurbishment interventions for the creation of community outposts: following the indications emerged during the co-design round tables, refurbishment interventions will be carried out in the identified places. In Favara, the identified space is the one in front of the Falcone Borsellino school. In Palma di Montechiaro, the identified space is the "Centro Salvinus", in the northern outskirts of the city, which hosts several public housing units.
Community events: In Favara and Palma, community events will be held involving groups, organisations and citizens in actions that enhance the skills and resources of each in the perspective of developing an educating community. The action will be coordinated by experts and local partners and, through the methodology of Community Social Theatre (TSC), the public will be involved and empowerment processes will be activated.
Community events will also be the occasion to inaugurate the refurbished spaces thanks to the "Community Hub" project and to invite everyone to experience and attend the new cultural centres that will be built in the area. In addition, the community will be involved in the design and implementation of awareness-raising campaigns based on the needs and desires that emerged from the co-design table.
