UP 2 YOU
Upgrading university pathways to promote bottom-up sustainable and inclusive development (project no. 2023-1-ES01-KA220-HED-000160874)

Territory
Provinces of Agrigento and Trapani; Rome (IT), Spain, Cyprus, Turkey, North Macedonia and France
Implementation period
September 2023 – August 2025
Donor
Erasmus + ; SEPIE (Spanish National Agency)
Project objective
The project aims to promote cooperation between civil society organisations and higher education institutions in order to strengthen the role and effectiveness of both sectors in promoting sustainable and inclusive community development.
Target audience
The project, implemented simultaneously in Italy, Spain, Cyprus, Turkey, North Macedonia and France, targets:
- University lecturers
- Professionals and young workers in the Third Sector
- University students
Activities
The project aims to develop quadruple-helix cooperation in each community involved through 3 macro-actions:
Training On the basis of a mapping of the needs of Third Sector organisations in terms of skills and professional profiles, partners will co-develop thematic and multidisciplinary courses integrated into current university programmes. Through the development of didactic material and practical tools and methodologies for the design and implementation of bottom-up initiatives, the project intends to provide students and professionals with the skills needed to promote community development.
Development of Living Communities Labs To promote long-term cross-sectoral and multidisciplinary cooperation dedicated to sustainable and inclusive local development, "living laboratories" will be developed in each target territory – local hubs dedicated to engaging local stakeholders, experimenting with new practices and integrating the skills of all actors involved (quadruple helix).
Co-design and development of a "Community Balance Scorecard" model Through knowledge exchange between actors in each community and professionals from different sectors, a "Community Balance Scorecard" (CBS) will be developed and tested – an interactive digital tool for monitoring local development progress. This tool will make it possible to collect and analyse data on the local context in order to gain a clear picture of the level of local development achieved through multiple integrated indicators and will support the development of ad hoc strategies based on key local development domains.
By developing innovative educational formats and cooperation tools, the UP2YOU project intends to provide students and professionals with the skills needed to collaborate with Third Sector organisations and other local stakeholders, promoting active citizenship, a sense of belonging to the community (both local and European), social cohesion and innovation, and helping to build more sustainable and resilient communities.
Impact
5 university lecturers involved in developing pathways and formats
15 Third Sector professionals trained
30 university students trained
